An immersive digital environment in which which I recreated my grandma’s bedroom in Caracas, with embedded family photographs, home movies from my childhood, and furniture that was modelled and textured referencing photographs from my personal family archive. This space exists in a limbo state physically and psychologically for both of us: I now live in Canada and my grandmother was displaced to a nursing home in 2018. This environment and the objects within it aim at weaving together narratives of displacement, the family archive, nostalgia and remembrance - sentiments and topics common to migration and aging.

The space was built in Unity 3D and it is meant to be experienced with a VR headset, but a video was recorded for documentation purposes.

Para este proyecto de realidad virutal, de carácter inmersivo, busqué recrear el cuarto de mi abuela en Caracas, modelando digitalmente éste y los objetos domésticos que se encuentran en él. Para entrar al cuarto, el espectador debe primero recorrer un cuerpo de agua; una vez dentro, se topa con detalles tanto personales como universales en el contexto de la domesticidad: los portarretratos, las fotos, las películas caseras y los muebles. A través de esta experiencia virtual y sus detalles sutiles, busco amasar sentimientos comunes a la migración y la vejez, como la nostalgia, el recuerdo, y el cuidado de la historia y el archivo familiar.
